Printing Probems

Printing a table or an entire page. Choose "File", "Print" from your browser. You may need to make the page bigger or smaller to fit on a printed page. To do this using Internet Explorer, choose "View", "Text Size" and make a selection. Using Netscape, choose "View", "Increase" or "Decrease Fontsize". You may also adjust your margin settings. See "Text being cut off when printed" below.

Printing a particular graphic using a WINDOWS computer. Position your cursor arrow on the graphic (such as a map, pie chart or bar graph) and click it. When it's selected, choose "File", "Print" from your browser.

Printing a particular graphic using a MACINTOSH. Download it and print from your desktop. To download a particular graphic (such as a map, pie chart or bar graph), position your cursor arrow on the graphic. With the mouse button held, drag the cursor arrow from the graphic to your desktop. It should appear as if a ghost image of the graphic is moving; this will copy the graphic file to your desktop. Next, print the file by clicking on it once and choosing "File", "Print". You may have to open the graphic in your browser, using "File", "Open".

Text being cut off when printed. If you are printing a page and find that the text is being cut off on the right hand side of the printout, you can change the margins used for printing. In your browser, just click on "File" then "Page Setup". Change your left and right margins to 0.25. Click "OK", then print the page. (You may need to adjust the margin setting based on your individual printer.) On a MAC, you can choose "File", "Print" then select "General", "Internet Explorer" and pick "Shrink Pages to Fit".

Printing limitations in Netscape 3.x. If you are using Netscape 3.x, you may find that headings which contain white text on a colored background are not showing up. Unfortunately, Netscape 3.x does not support this format. You may upgrade to a newer version of Netscape in order to print these pages properly.

Background/colors in Microsoft Internet Explorer. On some pages you may want the printout to look like the Web site. If you are using Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.x or 5.x, the colored background may not appear on the printed copy. You may go into "Internet Options" (under Edit in 4.x and Tools in 5.x), then to "Advanced Options". Find the section for Printing, and check "Print backgrounds and colors". On a MAC, choose "File", "Print" from your browser. Then choose "General", "Internet Explorer" and check the options for "Print Background" and if needed, "Shrink Pages to Fit".
